Welcome to Jumpstart Lab

Welcome to Jumpstart Lab

I’ve spent nearly twenty years building technical education programs. I ran the Turing School of Software & Design, built curriculum used by thousands of developers, and watched firsthand how people learn best — and how they don’t. Now I’m channeling all of that into something new.

Jumpstart Lab is a studio for modern learning. We’re focused on three things.

Workshops that actually teach

Our first workshops are about AI — specifically, helping people integrate Claude into their daily work. Not from a slide deck. Not from a demo. From their actual tools, their actual problems, their actual workflows.

We run short theory blocks followed by extended lab time where you work on real problems with expert guidance. The goal is that you leave with something you built, not just notes you took. Our first public workshop, Claude for Everyday Business, is coming to Denver this spring.

CommonMath: curriculum that should exist

There’s incredible Open Education Resource content for K-8 math scattered across the internet. The problem is it’s fragmented — different sites, inconsistent quality, impossible for a teacher to assemble into a coherent year. CommonMath takes the best of those resources and weaves them into a complete, modern curriculum that’s free for teachers and families.

This one is personal. I have kids. I’ve seen both the best and worst of how math is taught. I believe great curriculum should be open, and I think AI can help us build and adapt it faster than ever before.

The bigger question

We’re at an inflection point in education. AI is changing what it means to learn, what it means to teach, and what skills actually matter. I don’t have all the answers — nobody does yet — but I’ve been in this space long enough to know that the people who show up and build are the ones who shape what comes next.

That’s what this studio is for. Building things, testing ideas, sharing what we learn.

This site is built with Bridgetown, a Ruby-powered static site generator that’s a joy to work with. If you’re curious about any of what we’re doing, reach out at jeff@jumpstartlab.com. We’d love to hear from you.
